I’ve discovered that when people start eating healthy or changing their lifestyle, it can make those around them quite uncomfortable. Sometimes it’s because their jealous…sometimes it’s because they’re insecure…sometimes it’s because they feel judged…sometimes they aren’t even sure why they feel so uncomfortable…But it’s awkward, nonetheless.
How do we minimize “the awkward?” Laughter, of course!
You may not know this about me, but I LOVE comedy….stand up comedy, sketch comedy, comedy films, and, of course, the situation comedy (sitcom).
It’s been said that laughter is the best medicine. I wholeheartedly believe that. I am, naturally, a quite goofy person. Picture a female version of…. Don Knotts. Can you imagine it? Well, that’s me! 😉 I’m a weirdo.
If you sense people are uncomfortable about your eating habits or about your health issues, pop out a joke and lighten the mood.
If someone is staring awkwardly at your empty plate at a barbecue…Smile, Say, “Yep! I’m one of those weird health nuts,” or “I recently harnessed the power of telekinetic invisibility. There’s actually a HUGE meal on this plate,” and laugh.
If someone simply can’t fathom why you won’t eat sugar…get a very serious look on your face and say, “I’m an addict. The white stuff. It makes me crazy. I have been clean for a month,” 😉
If you have PCOS & a female friend seems uncomfortable, crack a joke about your “workaholic ovaries.”
If you aren’t stressed about a situation, and if you can laugh about it, everything will be alright.
DON’T BE AFRAID TO LAUGH AT YOURSELF!
