Mountain Rose Herbs: Hydrosols {REVIEW}

I know what you’re thinking…WHAT is a hydrosol? Well, according to the Mountain Rose Herbs website,

“Organic hydrosols or flower waters are produced by steam-distilling plant material. They have similar properties to their essential oil counterparts, but are much less concentrated.”

Hydrosols are a fantastic way to receive the benefits of essential oils, but at a fraction of the cost, and without the hassle of dilution.

Sarah Nagel of “Holistic Habits” on YouTube speaks almost worshipfully about her hydrosols.  After watching a few of her videos, I knew that I needed to give these things a try. I got in contact with Kori at Mountain Rose Herbs, and I was, oh so generously, sent three full size hydrosols: Peppermint, Helichrysum, and Neroli.

I’m going to start off by saying that these hydrosols are of the upmost quality and purity. Each variety possesses a rich, potent, and unique scent, with none smelling watered down or artificial.

HELICHRYSUM: I wasn’t a huge fan of the scent. It was very woodsy and slightly bitter. But, I really cannot complain about the scent, because this stuff WORKS. I’m highly allergic to mosquito bites. I sprayed this on a gnarly bite the size of a silver dollar, and not only did it stop the itching, but, after a few applications, the bite shrank and eventually went away completely.

PEPPERMINT: If you know anything about me, you know that I love mint: mint gum, mint candies, mint ice cream, mint lotion, mint lip balm…you name it. If it’s mint, I’m a fan. This peppermint hydrosol is no exception. It smells amazing. It’s a strong peppermint scent, with a subtle leafy undertone. I have found an array of uses for this! It alleviated itchy patches of skin I had developed. It relieved my congestion when sprayed on my chest, and it works great as an overall body spray.

NEROLI: This was my absolute favorite! I am in LOVE with this hydrosol. Neroli is made from the petals of orange blossoms, and, thus, the scent is not citrusy at all, but quite floral. It reminds me of my great grandmother’s gardenia perfume. I like to spray it into my room and just walk around in it. It is an AMAZING mood booster. If I am feeling anxious or depressed, this stuff really balances me out.

I would highly recommend each of these hydrosols. Mountain Rose Herbs offers more hydrosols, as well as other herb and plant based products, which you can find on their website: MountainRoseHerbs.com
