GoMacro {REVIEW}

Vegan protein bars? AND they’re gluten free? Yes & Yes!

All this and more on today’s review of *drumroll please*

GOMACRO!

GoMacro is a 100% vegan and gluten free company that prides themselves on making delicious, protein bars using only the purest ingredients available. All of their MacroBars are USDA Organic and third party verified as Non Genetically Modified (NONGMO).

Thank you to the sweet people over at the GoMacro company for sending me some samples of your products, along with some adorable GoMacro “swag.”

All MacroBars have a base texture and flavor. I’ll describe this to you before going in depth about each flavor.

The “traditional MacroBar texture,” is similar to that of a LaraBar, but much less chalky and crumbly. MacroBars have a nice chew to them that most others bars do not have. They are also significantly thinner than a LaraBar.

The base flavor of a MacroBar, surprisingly, is quite smokey. I believe this is a result of their all natural, vegan, protein powder blend. The smokiness is not overpowering or off putting, though. In fact, I believe GoMacro did a fantastic job of choosing flavors that offset and complement the smokiness.

Below, I will describe the flavors of each variety, in depth, as well as rank the smokiness from 1-5, and explain the texture through letting you know which elements were added to the “traditional MacroBar texture.”

BANANA ALMOND BUTTER :

I’ll admit, I was nervous about trying this one. A banana flavored protein bar did not seem appealing to me, in the slightest. I tried it, though, and was pleasantly surprised, to say the least.

It had a subtle, natural banana flavor, unlike anything I’d ever tasted. I tasted the sweet, nutty notes from the almond butter. Overall, it was sweet and slightly earthy.

Smokiness: THREE

Texture: No added texture elements.

CHERRIES AND BERRIES:

This variety had a lot of natural sweetness, as well as tartness that hits your mouth initially. The overall taste was bright and vibrant, but still light and natural. The cherry flavor was not artificial in any way.

Texture: Added elements of the oats and raisins

Smokiness: TWO

APPLES AND WALNUTS

This was by far my favorite of the four I tried. It reminded me of apple pie. It was initially sweet, but the sweetness was met by a great balance of warm, autumn spices. It had a strong cinnamon taste, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Texture: Added elements of apple pieces and chopped walnuts

Smokiness: ONE

PEANUT BUTTER CHOCOLATE CHIP:

If you don’t like peanut butter, you’ll hate this…because this baby is a peanut butter lover’s dream! The peanut butter flavor is rich, and remains prominent throughout the entire tasting experience. The dark chocolate flavor is a nice offset from the peanut butter. The mixture of the peanut butter and the smoky factor make for an almost caramel-y aftertaste.

Texture: Added element of chocolate chips

Smokiness: FOUR AND A HALF

That’s All, Folks! These are only four of the many fantastic flavors GoMacro offers. To see the different flavors, get nutritional information on each bar, place orders, or find out where you can find MacroBars near you, head over to GoMacro.com
