2 Steps to a New You

I have had many people ask me what they can do to be healthy and/or lose weight. Everyone’s looking for a miracle pill to take or a magical genie (maybe one named “Jeannie”) that will fix their problems. In a very Tony Nelson fashion, I must be practical. Becoming unhealthy does not happen overnight. This means that the opposite is also true. You cannot undo years of damage with one pill or by adding in one food or doing one exercise…one time. Perhaps Jeannie could help you. She blinked herself a Tony clone, for goodness’ sakes. Sadly, she hasn’t been seen since The Reunion Special, so I believe we’re stuck, in that regard.  

I have good news for you, though. There are two simple things that, when done diligently and consistently, are guaranteed to result in overall health. Are you ready?

Eat real food and stay active. I know that seems vague, but let me elaborate.

EAT REAL FOOD: This doesn’t mean you have to go dairy free, paleo, vegan, or even gluten free. It simply means not consuming chemical concoctions that are falsely described as “food.” No sodas, Twinkies, Doritos, Wheat Thins, Hot Pockets, Hamburger Helper….You get the idea! Nothing with ingredients you don’t recognize or can’t pronounce. Foods without labels are always best, and those with labels should have names of different FOODS on them.

STAY ACTIVE: Studies have shown that a mere thirty minutes of activity each day significantly decreases one’s risk of heart disease, type 2 Diabetes, and hyperlipidemia, even when the subject remains overweight. Said, “activity” can be anything you enjoy. You can go for a walk around your neighborhood, take on a bike trail, swim laps at the pool, even do some work in your backyard. You don’t have to be a “gym junkie” to be active. Just moving a little every day will change your life.

I can see it now. You’re staring at your computer, smart phone, or tablet and you’re stunned. Your eyes are buggish and mouth is gaping wide open. Maybe your fists are clenched? You simply cannot believe an issue that has plagued men and women for years can have such a simple solution. You’re feeling a bit like Roger was when he discovered Jeannie was a genie. How could Tony have kept that from him for so long?! His own best friend! You’re feeling a bit betrayed by the media, your doctors, and big pharma. You want to get them back for misleading you, and for complicating things. Well, we all know that getting back is not nearly as exciting as getting even…so, get even! Eat Real Food, Stay Active, and stick it to the man.
